US agrees to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan: MoFA

KABUL (Pajhwok): Direct talks on all relevant issues held with American side in Doha and it is hoped that diplomatic ties would return to normalcy soon, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Monday.

Earlier, Acting Foreign Minister Ameer Khan Muttaqi on the head of a high level delegation flew to Doha for talks with US officials.

“Detail discussion on various issues held with US side in Doha in good atmosphere,” the statement said.

The US side agreed on providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and pledged to facilitate other welfare organisations in offering humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan.

“The Islamic Emirate welcomed humanitarian aid and pledged to cooperate with welfare organization in distribution of aid and ensuring transparency. The travel process of foreigners would also be facilitated in a transparent mode,” according to the statement.

The US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said that US delegation discussed security, counter-terrorism concerns, safe evacuation of US and Afghan nationals, human rights, meaningful participation of all walks of life was discussed with the Taliban delegation.

Both sides also discussed provision of humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
