Talks in Termez focus on energy, border security

KABUL (Pajhwok): Talks between Uzbek officials and Taliban delegates focused on border security and trade cooperation, says an official in Tashkent.

The talks between a Taliban team led by Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi and Uzbek government members were held in Termez on Saturday.

Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement that representatives of several ministries and agencies discussed trade and economic cooperation, border security and cooperation in the field of energy.

Both sides stressed implementation of infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Surkhan-Puli-Khumri transmission line and the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railroad.

At the talks, the Uzbek delegation was headed by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Sardor Umurzakov, according to TASS news agency.
