TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, and a number of districts, which had been the front lines of war for years, have now been turned into fairgrounds and crowds of people who come for entertainment and recreation.

In Uruzgan, where no amusement parks have been built in recent years due to insecurity and conflict, the open areas are the only places for recreation and fun.

In recent years, these recreational areas have been turned into battlefields that no one had the courage to visit.

But now that the Taliban have taken control of the entire country and the fighting has stopped, the people of Uruzgan are once again returning to their former festivals.

One of these places is Mazar-i-Baba area of Chora district where people from the capital Tirinkot and other areas come every day, particularly on Fridays for entertainment and picnic.

Mira Jan, a resident of Tirinkot, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had come to the area with her four friends after several years.

He added that he was happy that the decades long war ended and that people had been able to enjoy peace.

Jan says hundreds of people come to the area every day, bringing food and other items with them and cooking there.

According to him, the area called Mazar-i-Baba has green gardens along with water springs and a large play area where youngsters and children play various games.

Sharifullah, another visitor of the area came from Kandahar province.

He told Pajhwok that he had come to the area for the first time for a picnic and was playing wrestling with his friends in a peaceful atmosphere.

He also expressed satisfaction that the fighting has ended and security improved which let people have safe movements from one to another area.

Chora district is not alone, there is also another area in Khas Uruzgan district of the province called Garm Aab which is famous for recreation and sightseeing in the province.

It is an area where people from other provinces and even Pakistan came for recreation and picnic.

Mohammad Yusuf, who came to the hotspot for picnic, said there is a spring of water coming out of the mountain which added to the beauty of the site.

He said the water of the spring was hot in all seasons of the year and there is a belief among the people that if one bathes in it, his body aches will go away.

Hundreds of people visit the area every day and many patients swim in the spring to get their health recovered, he said.

“People hope that security and stability will continue and they will be provided with better livelihood condition,” he said.

Local officials, on the other hand, assure people that they can move from one place to another without fear.

Khas Uruzgan district chief, Mulavi Rashid told Pajhwok he was working day and night to ensure the safety of the people.

He said that they have provided all the facilities in the district which and people were happy about their services.

Mulavi Aminullah, an official of Uruzgan’s information and culture department, urged residents of Uruzgan and other provinces to visit the province without fear.

He said the government was implementing various measures to ensure the security of tourists in the area.
