JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a religious scholar in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday morning, a resident said.
Mufti Saeedullah Saheel was a teacher at Ashabul Saffa Madrassa and served as prayer leader at a mosque in the Muqam Khan locality of Behsud district.
Maulvi Saheel was gunned down early in the morning on his way to the mosque for Fajr (morning) prayers, a local said.
He was the second religious scholar to be gunned down in the past two days by unknown assailants.
A recent surge in the killing of religious scholars in the eastern province has worried local residents.
