KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan will do all it can to achieve domestic stability and contribute to regional peace and security, says the acting foreign minister.

Amir Khan Muttaqi held out the assurance at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Doha on Tuesday, according to Xinhua news agency.

The Taliban would never allow any individual or group to use Afghanistan’s territory against China, Muttaqi assured his interlocutor.

H claimed the situation in Afghanistan had gradually stabilised since the Taliban gained power in mid-August.

Yearning for peace after 45 years of war, Afghanistan was willing to forge cooperation with other countries on the basis of equality, he added.

He hailed friendly relations with China as vital to Afghanistan and commended Beijing’s principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

Muttaqi said his country was appreciative of China’s support and aid, which would be used to improve the Afghan people’s living standards.

Wang Yi said China respected Afghanistan’s pursuit of its own development path and governance model.

He also supported Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as the objective reality of the Afghan interim government.

“We hope the Taliban will unite all ethnic groups and factions to work together to achieve stability and development, and ensure that the country’s future is truly within the Afghan people’s grasp…”

Wang Yi voiced China’s concern at current difficulties in Afghanistan, in particular the potential outbreak of a humanitarian crisis.

He promised China would continue to provide humanitarian support to Afghanistan within its capacity. The first batch of humanitarian aid has already arrived in Kabul.

China will provide more emergency material assistance via the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the UN Refugee Agency.

“Taliban will take more resolute measures to crack down on the international terrorists of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement,” he hoped.

Once the security situation in Afghanistan is stabilized, Beijing will discuss with Kabul cooperation in the field of economic reconstruction.
