KABUL (Pajhwok): England has defeated Bangladesh while Namibia beat Scotland in their super 12 group matches in the on-going ICC T20 World Cup played in the United Arab Emirate.
England raced to a second successive victory at the tournament with a ruthless eight-wicket drubbing of Bangladesh on Wednesday in the two nations’ first ever meeting in the format.
Opening batter Jason Roy marked his 50th T20 appearance by smashing 61 off 38 balls as England romped to their victory target of 125 in 14.1 overs in the Super 12 clash at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Roy reached his seventh T20 half-century with a straight six and put on a key second-wicket partnership of 73 with Dawid Malan, who made an unbeaten 28.
Left-arm fast bowler Tymal Mills took three wickets to combine with spinners Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone to restrict Bangladesh to 124-9.
England, the world’s number one-ranked T20 team, top Group 1 with two big wins after a six-wicket thrashing of holders West Indies in their opening tie.
Separately, Namibia defeated Scotland by four wickets in a Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Opting to bowl, Namibia first restricted Scotland to 109/8 and then chased down the target in 19.1 overs. JJ Smit remained not out on 32, while Craig Williams made 23. Earlier, Michael Leask top-scored for Scotland with a 27-ball 44, while Chris Greaces made 25. Ruben Trumpelmann was the best bowler for Namibia with figures of 3/17, while Jan Flrylinck (2/10) picked up two wickets.
