KABUL (Pajhwok): Prices of flour, petroleum products and gas continued to soar during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.
Zmarai Safi, head of the Kabul traders’ union, said the wholesale price of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakh flour jumped from 2,000afs to 2,100afs.
Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, he linked the hike in flour and petroleum prices to depreciation of the afghani against the US dollar.
However, the prices of other essential items remained stable. The wholesale rate of a 49-kilogram sack of Indian sugar remained unchanged at 2,950afs.
A 16 litres tin of Malaysian cooking oil stayed stable at 2,500afs, a 24 kilograms bag of Pakistani rice at 2,400afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea at 350afs and the same quantity of African black tea at 380afs.

A worker of the Hashimi Petrol Pump said the price of one litre of petrol rose to 76afs from last week’s 73afs. A litre of diesel accounted for 75fs, compared to last week’s price of 65afs.
The surge in prices of petroleum products was tied to international market trends.
Mohammad Javed, a jeweler in the Lycee Marym market, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold was 4,100afs while the same quantity of the Russian variety accounted for 3,400afs.
Haji Hussain, a moneychanger in the Sara-e-Shahzada market, said one US dollar accounted for 90afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 500afs.
Last week, one dollar was equal to 89afs while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 495afs.
