KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Secretary-General says 62 journalists and media workers were killed worldwide last year.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in a series of tweets today said the number of journalists killed has risen in recent years, with 62 journalists and media workers losing their lives worldwide last year alone.
“Sixty-two journalists were killed last year just for doing their job. No society can be free without journalists who can investigate wrongdoing and speak truth to power. I urge countries to investigate and prosecute crimes against them with the full force of the law,” he said.
The UN Secretary-General stressed that those perpetrating crimes against journalists should be punished.
