KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Culture and Information (MoCI) has asked the people to conduct trade and transactions in the afghani and refrain from using foreign currencies.
In a statement, the ministry said the country’s economic situation and national interests required all Afghans to use the afghani.
“The Islamic Emirate informs all compatriots, shopkeepers, businessmen and the public to conduct trade in the Afghan currency and avoid using foreign currencies,” the statement added.
The use of foreign currencies had a negative impact on the country’s economy and affected all citizens, the ministry argued.
According to the statement, which did not give details, violators will be dealt with according to the law.
The ban comes amid depreciation of the afghani currency and freezing of the country’s reserves by foreign banks.
