UNAMA, Iran, ex-officials condemn Kabul attack

KABUL (Pajhwok): UNAMA, Iran and former Afghan officials including Hamid Karzai and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah have condemned Tuesday’s attack in capital Kabul.

On Tuesday, two back-to-back explosions, followed by gunfire, rocked the 400-bed hospital, killing and injuring dozens of people. Government officials said that three women, a child and three security forces were killed and five others wounded in the incident.

Officials said the attack was carried out by five Daesh or ISIS militants who were killed by security forces. However, some media outlets said that 49 people were killed in the bomb and gun attack.

UNAMA has denounced the attack on the Mohammad Daud Khan Military Hospital in a statement.

“UN condemns today’s horrific attack on hospital in Kabul. Attacks targeting medical personnel and civilians seeking treatment are violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. Those responsible need to be held to account,” the mission said.

Iranian embassy in Kabul also denounced the attack and shared its sympathy with the bereaved families.

Former Afghan president, Hamid Karzai and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also condemned the attack.

Karzai called the attack an act of crime against humanity and conspiracy against Afghanistan and stressed on unity among Afghans for protecting their country.
