KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of southern Kandahar province say they are concerned about increasing incidents of motorbike and mobile snatching in the provincial capital.

Qudratullah, a resident 1st police district of Kandahar City, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two of his motorcycles had been stolen in four days. He said such robberies had increased recently and security agencies should stop them.

Allah Noor, another resident, said his friend’s motorcycle had been stolen two days ago. He told Pajhwok he had also informed the Kandahar police and shared the motorcycle documents with them to help them find it.

According to him, there are so many thieves that no one can park motorcycle in front of shops.

He said people did not consider themselves and their vehicles safe and security agencies should take action.

Abdul Sattar, resident of 5th police district, told Pajhwok the robbers snatched a mobile phone from a friend in a crowded city and fled.

He said thefts and other crimes had increased due to unemployment and the government should provide jobs to people so that robberies and other crimes in the society could be prevented.

He said they believed crimes under the Taliban would decrease but they were on the increase.

Meanwhile, officials say that security agencies are working to prevent robberies and other crimes and those involved would be arrested and punished according to Sharia.

Maulvi Mohamood Azam, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok that there were problems but the provincial government was trying to prevent robberies and other crimes.

He said robberies were committed by those who used to find money through corruption and other illegal means but now they did not have that money so they had resorted to robberies.

In addition to Kandahar, robberies have recently increased in some other provinces of Afghanistan.
