ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Security officials in eastern Kunar province say 65 people have been arrested in the past three months on charges of various crimes.

Abdul Ghafar Zaki, Kunar deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News 65 people had been arrested in the past three months on charges of drug trafficking, kidnapping and armed robbery in the province.

He said security personnel in the province had also seized dozens of weapons being smuggled abroad during the period.

“We have launched a strong campaign against those who act in violation to Sharia and the law,” he said.

He said civilians should cooperate with government forces in curbing illegal activities and help security forces in capturing criminals.

Meanwhile, Ansarullah, a resident of Kunar, said, “I lost my car in front of my house a few days ago. I informed the police headquarters. The security forces arrested the robber and returned my car.”

Kunar residents insisted that those arrested should be punished in accordance with the law so that others could learn a lesson.
