KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban’s Islamic Emirate has renamed all eight military corps of the Afghan army.

Acting Defence Minister Yaqoob Mujahid renamed the Special Operations Corps in Kabul as the Central Corps.

In a decree on Sunday, the defence minister said the 209th Shaheen Corps would now be called Al-Fatah.

The 217th Pamir Corps in Kunduz has been renamed as Omari Corps and the 205th Atal Corps in Kandahar as Al-Badr Corps.

By the same token, Yaqoob renamed the 215th Maiwand in Helmand as Azm and the 201st Sailab Corps as Khalid bin Waleed.

From now on, the 203rd Thunder Corps will be called Mansouri and the 207th Zafar Corps in Herat Al-Farooq.
