LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): An educational centre for poor and orphaned children, constructed by the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), was inaugurated in the capital of Helmand province on Monday.
Governor Maulvi Abdul Ahad Talib. ARCS representatives and other officials were present on the occasion.
The governor thanked ARCS for setting up the centre in Lashkargah to educate poor and homeless children.
He said the centre would provide free education to homeless and poor children, who could not afford to pay fees.
Hafiz Samim, ARCS representative in Helmand, provided information about the educational centre and said the two-storey building of the training center was constructed at a cost of 6.5 million afghanis and contain seven classrooms, an official and a hall.
He added the educational center provide free education to children who were poor and homeless.
According to him, besides computer and English language, religious and modern education is being imparted in the center.
Mohammad Salim, 13, said his father was killed three years ago and his family had since been facing financial hardships.
He could not pursue his studies because of poverty. Many resourceless children like him are happy over the opening of the free education centre for them.
