Iran special envoy to visit Kabul soon

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Foreign Ministry has announced that Hassan KazemiQomi, special representative of Iran’s president, will travel to Kabul soon.

The report was published by Iranian media today, quoting Saeed Khatibzadah, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The exact time of Hassan Kazemi’s visit to Kabul is not specified in the report.

The Afghan government has not yet commented on this trip.

Kazemi’s visit to Afghanistan comes as Iran recently hosted a meeting with representatives from Russia and Afghanistan’s neighbors. The representative of the caretaker government of Afghanistan was not present at the meeting.

Iran has not yet recognized the Afghan government.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has appointed Hassan KazemiQomi, a former commander of the IRGC's Quds Force and former Iranian ambassador to Iraq, as his special envoy for Afghanistan.
