Afghan, Uzbek officials discuss bilateral cooperation

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Afghanistan transport and aviation minister and special envoy of Uzbekistan on Sunday discussed bilateral cooperation in diverse fields in northern Balkh province.

The two sides discussed airport repair, electricity and meteorological system during a meeting in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.

A statement from Balkh governor’s house said that Hamidullah Akhundzada, Afghan transport and aviation minister and MaulviQudratullah Abu Hamza, Balkh governor, met with IsmatullahErgashov, special envoy of the president of Uzbekistan, to discuss bilateral cooperation.

According to the source, the meeting focused on repairing Mazar-I-Sharif airport, renewal of power contract, preparing of meteorological system and some other issues.

“Uzbekistan is committed to cooperating with the new Afghan government and has assured that the repairing of Mazar-i-Sharif airport will start soon,” Ergashov was quoted as saying in the statement.

During the meeting, Afghan officials thanked Uzbekistan for its cooperation and called for its continued collaboration with Afghanistan.
