KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Passport distribution and registration process resumed in southeastern Khost province on Sunday after being stopped three months ago.
Officials say passports are being issued as per conditions set by the central passport office.
Mualvi Abdul Hakim Hameedi, public and strategic relations official at the Ministry of Interior, said for now only200 passports were issued on a daily basis and if needed the passport department would stay open on Fridays.
Besides Khost province, he said, the process of issuance and registration for passports had been launched in other provinces and would be gradually extended to all provinces.
“Our leaders decided that besides Kabul the passport distribution process should be launched in province in order address people’s complaints in this regard and reduce burden on the main passport office,” he said.
Residents of Khost province welcomed the launch of passport issuance in the province.
Khan Baz, a resident, told Pajhwok Afghan New that people faced problems as a result of closure of the passport office in the province.
Also today, the process of issuance and registration for passport was launched in Nangarhar, Kandahar, Herat, Balkh, Kunduz and Paktia provinces.
