For first time, 2 schools open in Baghran district

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Two schools were inaugurated in the Baghran district of southern Helmand province for the first time, local education officials said on Tuesday.

Assistant Literacy Director at the Education Department Maulavi Ismael Saadat said one school was opened in the district centre and another in Pai Sang locality.

Buildings for these schools had been constructed under the Iqra scheme of the previous government.

Staff of the schools served in other areas and they would be recalled after the construction of buildings, he said, adding that UNICEF had also been asked to provide support to education sector in Baghran district.

Local residents hailed government’s efforts for promoting education in Baghran and said they were deprived of education and other facilities in past 40 years.

Abdul Haleem, one of the residents of Baghran district, said the district was situated 120 kilometers north of Lashkargah and no attention had been paid in the past 40 years.

It is pertinent to mention that overall 417 government schools and 1,082 seminaries are functioning in Helmand province where thousands of students are getting education.
