SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The Jawzjan police chief has announced the arrest of a man on charges of selling 130 women in the province.
Police chief Damla Siraj told Pajhwok Afghan News that second police district personnel detained the man in Shiberghan.
However, he declined naming the detainee, saying the man had deceived some women from Shiberghan into accompanying him to neighboring provinces, where he sold them.
Siraj added: “Investigations are underway in this regard, and we want to know what else is involved in this case.”
He revealed the man was wanted by police for some time. He was arrested in a raid on Monday evening.
Maulvi Mohammad Sardar Mubarez, the head of the second police district, said: “We will spare no effort to ensure security, keep people safe and detain criminals.
The official said: “We will prevent crime with the cooperation of the people.”
Mobile patrols, checkpoints and strengthening of security belts have had a positive impact on security, he added.
Mubarez believed providing security in the city and other areas of the province required cooperation from citizens.
According to another report, four people were arrested in connection with theft and robbery in the 2nd police district.
The police chief said the quartet had been arrested on charges of stealing livestock, power cables and a vehicle.
Sher Mohammad, a resident of Chatgarkhaneh village and owner of the stolen car, said the thieves had stolen the vehicle from his house and wanted to take it to Sar-i-Pul province.
He praised efforts of the security forces, saying, “The crime rate has decreased in Shiberghan since the Islamic Emirate’s takeover.”
