TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Landmines planted in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, and districts during conflict time has put the lives of common people at huge risked, according to local residents on Tuesday.
Local residents who returned to their homes after the security situation improved complained against landmines and explosive remnants of war.
They said abandoned explosive ordinance and landmines inflicted casualties on common people on daily bases asking the government to get rid of them.
Janan, the resident of Kotwal locality in Tirinkot, said few days back one of his grandsons was killed in a landmine blast.
He said this area was the line of fire during conflict and a bag of explosive was still existed close to his house.
He added it was not only his family that rendered sacrifices due to conflict but some other families also lost their relatives to landmines.
Janan asked government to clear their locality from landmines and other explosives.
Mohammad Naseem, the resident of Chorai district, said most families who flee their areas due to conflict have returned to their homes but they could not live confidently due to landmines and explosive remnants in the area.
He asked all those areas that remained as the line of fire during conflict should be cleared from landmines.
Governor Haji Ghosuddin said he contacted demining officials and asked them to clear mines from areas that were hotly contested during conflict.
This comes that in the past few weeks landmines and explosive remnants inflicted casualties on common people in some parts of Uruzgan province.
