Tribal elder gunned down in Paktika

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a tribal elder in the Yahya Khel district of southeastern Paktika province on Friday, residents said.

Abdul Razzaq, a resident of Yahya Khel district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that tribal elder Noor Mohammad, popularly known as "Aka" and father of former Paktika provincial council member Bahawal Khan, had been shot dead at his home last night.

He added that the slain elder had no job in the previous government but was a supporter of the republic.

Another resident of Katwaz, Sargar, said that officials of the previous government were being targeted and killed in the province. He demanded that the new government should explain to the people about the killings.

A day earlier, Mullah Manan's son, a tribal elder from Yusufkhel district, was shot dead. The deceased's brothers were former police officials.
