KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of successful Afghan students on Pakistani scholarships staged a protest rally on Monday in response to the issuance of visas by the Pakistani embassy in Kabul.
The students say two months had passed their classes began but the Pakistani embassy has not yet issued visas to them.
The students gathered in front of the Pakistani embassy in Kabul protest against not issuing visas to them.
During the protest, Jahanzeb Wesa, a representative of Afghan students, told Pajhwok Afghan News that for the past one month, they have been coming to the Pakistani embassy every day to apply for visas but in vain.
He said their classes had begun two months ago and if the visa was not issued, the academic year would be wasted.
"We want the Pakistani embassy to solve our visa problem and give us visas as soon as possible so that no more lessons are missed," he added.
He said he had shared the visa issue with the Afghan Foreign Ministry yesterday but had not yet received any results.
Another protester, Ehsanullah: "When we go to the Pakistani embassy, they tell us to talk to the Pakistani foreign ministry so that they can solve your problem," he said.
He asked the government to share its problem with the Pakistani embassy and resolve it.
The protesters also issued a statement at the end of their protest.
The resolution said that university classes in Pakistan had started six weeks ago, but students who had won scholarships were still facing an unknown fate in Afghanistan.
The resolution also called on the Afghan government to resolve its visa problems.
