US-Taliban negotiations resume in Doha today

KABUL (Pajhwok): Talks between Taliban and US officials are set to resume today (Saturday) in Qatar, with both sides having placed different issues on the agenda.

A high-level Taliban delegation, led by acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in Doha on Thursday for talks with the Americans.

Inamullah Samangani, spokesman for the Taliban government, said the talks would focus strengthening diplomatic and political ties between the two countries, implementing the Doha commitment and unfreezing of Afghan assets.

However, Deputy Minister of Information Zabihullah Mujahid said a few days ago that parleys with the US would address concerns about the Afghan government.

Earlier in the week, the State Department said humanitarian aid and the economic situation in Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism and the evacuation of American citizens and the Afghans who are at risk would be discussed.
