GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of handicapped persons on Sunday gathered at the provincial Information and Culture department in southern Ghazni province to demand their stipend unpaid for the last two years.
Numbering in dozens, the disabled persons said they had not received their monthly stipend for the last two years.
One of the disabled, Mohammad Anear, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was suffering from abject poverty and he could not meet daily needs of his family.
He said they had also urged the previous government to give them their rights. He asked the new government to pay attention to the problems of disabled people.
Another disabled person, Sher Mohammad, said they were able to meet family needs with the monthly stipends but now the stipends had been suspended and as a result they faced economic hardships.
Head of Disabled Association, Fazl Haq Hashmi, said the disabled people should given their rights without any discrimination.
He said the disabled persons had not received their monthly stipend for the last two years. He said had also protested during the previous government, but their calls fell on deaf ears.
Ghazni information and culture direcror Mualvi Habibullah Mujahid said they were trying to investigate problems of the disabled people and find solution to them. He said the problem of monthly stipend would be shared with the central government.
