SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Journalists in northern Sar-i-Pul province on Monday called for unrestricted access to information while information and culture officials of the province promised improvements in all parts of governance in a gradual manner.
Journalists and civil society activists in Sar-i-Pul during a meeting with Mohammad OmairSarpuli, director information and culture of the province, asked for easy access to information.
GhulamSakhiFrotan, a journalist of Pajhwok Afghan News and representative of Journalists Protection Committee of Sar-i-Pul, who was talking to the meeting, said that access to information should be simplified and meetings between journalists and Information and Culture Department should continue.
Journalists said that access to information was currently a difficult job and officials sometimes refused to provide information.
HekmatullahHeydari, a civil society activist in Sar-i Pul, called on the Information and Culture Department to also facilitate activities of civil society institutions besides providing on time information to journalists.
Mohammad OmairSarpuli called on civil society activists and the media community to discharge their responsibility towards their people and country.
He said that the economic problems in the country were a temporary matter and all problems would be solved with the passage of time.
Sarpuli also said that journalists should try to prevent discrimination and guide people towards mutual acceptance in the community.
