GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Eighty percent of problems at the Zonal Hospital in the capital of southern Ghazni province have been resolved after Pajhwok published a report about some issues in the healthcare center.
About two months ago, director of GhazniZonal Hospital, Dr. Ajab Khan Hamidi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the hospital would be closed in 20 days if they did not receive fuel, medicine, food and power generators.
However, in an interview with Pajhwok now he said that the hospital had been provided with all required resources including medicine, food and fuel and 80 percent of their problems had been solved after Pajhwok mentioned the issues in a report.
He said that some of the medicines and food items donated by Qatar to Afghanistan had been provided to GhazniZonal Hospital, and the Ministry of Public Health had also provided some cash to the hospital for purchasing fuel for its power generators.
Hamidi said that the resources the hospital was provided would be enough for the next three months.
"We previously were providing both the staff and the patients with food, but when the hospital ran into financial difficulties, we stopped food for them, currently we provide food for our staff only," he said.
He thanked Pajhwok for its report about their problems and drawing the attention of officials concerned to the facility.
Patients who visit the hospital are also happy and say that most of the problems of the hospital have been solved and they now received better health services.
They say two months ago, the hospital operated only during night when the electricity was available, but now it is functional 24 hours a day.
Abdul Khaliq, a patient attendant, said his wife needed an operation but he could not afford the expenses in private hospitals. He said that he took her wife to Ghazni Zonal Hospital for the surgery without any expenses.
On the other hand, Mualvi Mohammad HanifMisbah, Ghazni public health director, told Pajhwok that the Ministry of Public Health had provided 1,000 litre of fuel to the healthcare center and their problems were mostly resolved.
He said that he was in contact with the central government to attract more resources for the hospital.
GhazniZonal Hospital receives patients from Paktika, Daikundi, Bamyan, Paktia, Zabul, MaidanWardak and some other provinces.
