MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The Organization for Relief Development (ORD), an Afghan non-profit humanitarian organization, distributed cash and non-food packages to over 550 needy and displaced families in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Monday.
Faryab Governor Office Planning Officer HameedullahAmeeni told Pajhwok Afghan News that according to an earlier survey conducted by UNHCR, the ORD distributed cash and non-food packages among 553 less fortunate and poor families.
He said 263 families were provided with $500 cash assistance and 303 families were given food packages.
Saifuddin Jihadi, acting Refugee Department Director, confirmed the aid distribution and said the survey in this regard was conducted in the past, adding that officials of aid distributing agencies were present during the process to monitor that deserving person received the aid.
UNHCR Representative Syed Naqibullah was present during the distribution of $500 aid but he refused to comment.
ORD Head Syed HabibRahmanGailani said 303 displaced families were distributed aid packages that included blankets, sheet, water tanks, soaps and garments.
