KABUL (Pajhwok): Following the hike in prices of flour and liquefied gas, the Chamber of Craftsmen and Kabul Municipality have fixed the rate of a 200-gram bread at 15 afghanis and 270-gram bread at 20 afghanis.

The decision was made after Pajhwok Afghan News published a report today about a 46 grams difference in weight of a bread in Kabul bakeries.

Reviews by Pajhwok at bakeries showed that one bread in Kabul City weighting from 125 to 171 grams was sold for 10afs.

However, Chamber of Craftsmen and Kabul Municipality in a statement increased the price for a temporary basis with effect from today, Tuesday morning.

The statement reads, “Recently, the price of flour and gas has dramatically increased. The Chamber of Craftsmen and Shopkeepers of Afghanistan in consultation with Kabul Municipality has temporarily fixed the price of a 200 gram bread at 15 afghanis and the price of a 270 grams bread at 20 afghanis to prevent any halt of food supply to people, the prices of bread would be revised if the rates of liquefied gas and flour decreased.”

The statement added, “The weight of only warm and freshly baked bread is valid and anyone who violates the rules should be reported to 0731010422.”

The prices of essential items and petroleum have sharply increased following the afghani depreciation against the US dollar.

Wahidullah, a gas seller in Taimani area of Kabul, said that the price of a kilogram of the commodity was 120 afghanis and a bag of 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour 2,800afs today.
