Efforts ongoing to stabilise afghani, says DAB

KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) says it is striving to ensure the stability of the afghani, which has been nose-diving in recent months.

On Tuesday, the central bank said it had met foreign exchange dealers, representatives of commercial banks and businesspeople to on stabilising the afghani.

The DAB statement comes a day after the local currency shed almost 12 percent of its value against the US dollar within hours.

It said: “Based on its strategic policies, Da Afghanistan Bank has always tried to avoid volatility that could be harmful to the purchasing power of the people.”

Also on Tuesday, the cabinet directed the economic commission to initiate urgent steps to ensure the stability of the afghani.

With the local currency continuing to fall, prices of daily-use items have significantly shot up in the country.
