KABUL (Pajhwok): Nasir Ahmad Fayek, Afghanistan’s advisor to the United Nations, has been appointed to replace Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqzai, the permanent representative to the United Nations.
Ahmad Fayek has been appointed as the Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations.
Naseer Fayek also confirmed the news on his Twitter page. He said he had accepted the great responsibility in the most difficult circumstances and he would work to bring the voices of Afghans’ unemployment, hunger and poverty to the attention of UN member states.
Meanwhile, media reports said Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqzai had resigned as Afghanistan permanent representative the UN.
But about two weeks ago, the UN General Assembly in New York approved Ishaqzai by a majority of votes, while the new caretaker government in Afghanistan has introduced Sohail Shaheen for the position.
It is worth mentioning that Ishaqzai was appointed to the post at the end of the government of former President Ashraf Ghani.
Pajhwok shared the issue with government spokesmen, but they declined to comment.
