Noted religious scholar gunned down in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot dead Maulvi Bismillah Shakir, head of a branch of the Kabul Arabic Dar-ul-Uloom.

Sources said Maulvi Shakir was shot dead this morning on his way to a mosque in the 17th police district of Kabul.

Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Eng. Izam said: “With great sadness, we have learnt that Maulvi Shakir, a prominent religious scholar, has been martyred in a cowardly attack by the enemies of Islam.”

He said the security forces were investigating the incident and had launched efforts to detain the killers and bring them to justice.
