KABUL (Pajhwok): Corruption in most departments under the previous government took a heavy toll on Afghanistan’s economy, alleges an official.
Speaking at a ceremony here on Sunday, the newly-appointed deputy minister of economy took a swipe at the former administration for widespread corruption.
Abdul Latif Nazari claimed the Taliban had inherited most of their problems from their predecessors. Billions of dollars were lost to corruption, he said.
Acting Minister of Economy Qari Din Mohammad Haneef told the audience the ministry needed professional and clean individuals.
“We are doing our bit to recruit professional faces here,” said Haneef, who hoped Nazari, having a PhD in political science, would measure up to people’s expectations.
