Water level in Kajaki Dam surges after recent rainfall

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Water level in the Kajaki Dam reservoir has surged to 52 metre after recent rain and snowfall in the country, an official said on Saturday.

MawlaviAyoub, Da Afghanistan BreshnaShirkat Director (DABS) for Helmand, said the water level in the reservoir will reach up to 77 metres in the near future and this will the highest level.

He said after recent rain and snowfall the water level in the dam reservoir surged by 20cm daily.

Hameedullah, a resident of Nad Ali district, said the increase in water will help produce energy and would store water for irrigation of agriculture land.

Umar Gul, a resident of Nawa district, expressed happiness over recent rainfall and said farmers will not face water shortage this year.

The Kajaki Dam has the capacity to store 2.8 billion cubic water and is considered one of the major hydropower dams of the country.
