KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Police on Monday claimed arresting six robbers who used to loot moneychangers and others along with 5.5 million Pakistani rupees in southern Kandahar province.

Deputy police chief for investigation Mualvi Mahmood told reporters here that they increased the number of detectives following people’s complaints about increasing incidents of robberies.

Following efforts of detectives, six robbers were arrested along with 5.5 million Pakistani rupees they had stolen from moneychangers and others, he said, adding that efforts were underway to arrest more robbers.

He said the group busted had been involved in systematic robberies as they would skillfully puncture tyres of moneychangers’ vehicles and would loot them on the way.

He said investigation was underway to arrest friends of the detained persons. One robber had stolen seven million Pakistani rupees and had gone to neighboring Helmand province.

The recovered money was distributed among their owners, police officials said.

A person, who was robbed of 2.5 million rupees, told Pajhwok that as he emerged from the money changer market, the robbers punctured his vehicle and looted him on the way.  He thanked security forces for arresting the robbers and returning him his money back.
