KABUL (Pajhwok): A Taliban delegation has met with Mohammad Islamil Khan and Ahmad Massoud in Tehran and has assured them that they could return to the country without any worry.
Ismail Khan, a former governor of Herat and a leading member of the Jamiat-i-Islami party, and Ahmad Massoud, fled the country in August following the regime change in Afghanistan.
However, Ismail Khan was captured by the Taliban in Herat in late August, but was released based on amnesty. He went to Iran after his release.
Ahmad Massoud also set up anti-Taliban front in Panjsher, but after the province was captured by the security forces of the current government, Massoud fled the country and currently he is in Iran.
Acting foreign minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi led a delegation to Iran two days ago.
Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Afghan government, said the delegation had met with Ismail Khan and Ahmad Massoud in Iran.
“The Islamic Emirate assured them (Massoud, Ismail Khan) that they can return home without any worries. The Islamic Emirate strives to ensure the future of the country for all and gives no reason to oppose it,” he added.
