PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Residents of northern Baghlan province say night time robberies have increased in Dand Ghori and Baghlan-i-Markazi district since last one month, asking security forces to take action.

MulaviSafiullahSamim, Baghlan police chief, confirmed robberies took place in some parts of the province, saying they had deployed security personnel to the areas to capture robbers.

Mohammad Khan, a resident of Baghlan-i-Markazi district, told Pajhwok Afghan News three robbery cases happened in the past one month in some parts of the district, including a clash between security forces and armed robbers.

He said a group of armed robbers broke into the house of Dr. GulFaraz in Shahr-i-Kuhnar area of the district during night and took cash and gold from him.

He said thieves also robbed people of cash in Najo area of the district just two days after the first incident. This situation has worried local people, he added.

Mohammad Arif, a resident of DandGhori area, also complained that robbers also broke into his house.

“It was midnight when a group of armed men broke into our house and told us not to be afraid, we are security personnel,” he said.

He said the gunmen snatched mobile phones from all members of his family and then searched the house to find some valuables, including gold, cash and other items.

Arif said he first thought the men were security guards but after locking all of them in a room and they heard the sound of breaking boxes, he realized the men were robbers.

He called on security organs to control the situation and award severe punishment to robbers.

A number of other residents of the district also complained of increasing theft cases and asked the government to improve security.

MulaviSafiullahSamim, Baghlan police chief, told Pajhwok there were some cases of robberies in some areas but security forces had been deployed to prevent such incidents in the future.

MulaviMusfataHashemi, provincial information and culture director, assured local people that the situation would be soon improve by cracking down on thieves.

He said that security forces of the Islamic Emirate were recently shifted to cities and that was the reason villages were left with security vacuum.

He said new security checkpoints had been set up in several locations and night patrols had been stepped up to improve the situation.

People during the previous government had been complaining of highway robberies during night, but the cases dropped after the Taliban came into power.
