Don’t hold detainees in prisons for too long, forces asked

KABUL (Pajhwok): The acting interior minister has directed security forces to treat detainees in accordance with the Sharia law and avoid keeping them in prison beyond their scheduled release dates.

Sirajuddin Haqqani issued the instruction at a meeting here on capacity-building for the security personnel on Tuesday, a statement from MoI said.

Haqqani stressed the importance of providing a safe environment for Kabul residents, foreign diplomats, national businessmen and senior officials of the former regime who are still in the country.

He asked the security personnel to treat detainees in accordance with the Islamic law and not to keep them in custody beyond the hail terms awarded to them.

Without elaborating, the interior minister issued necessary directions to the security forces on implementation of the general amnesty, ensuring public safety and better interaction with the people.
