KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate has sought a bigger role in delivery of humanitarian aid to the vulnerable Afghans.

Global assistance should be delivered to the people of Afghanistan in coordination with the Islamic Emirate, said Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi.

Taliban officials should also be involved in provision of aid to the people in need, he told a news conference in the capital on Wednesday.

The deputy premier proposed the creation of a joint committee of its officials and international representatives to coordinate planned aid.

Hanafi added: “The goal is coordination at a higher level for facilitating the distribution of humanitarian aid from the international fraternity to the needy people.”

Speaking on the occasion, UN envoy Ramiz Alakbarov urged the world utilise the government’s capacity for the effective and transparent distribution of aid.

Over the last four months, the UN official said, they had provided assistance to about 18 million deserving people.
