KABUL (Pajhwok): An official of the Ministry of Interior visited the family of Zainab, a young woman who was shot dead last week at a checkpoint in Kabul, and informed them about the arrest of the killer.
Zainab Abdulhai was killed by a security officer at the checkpoint in the west of the capital on Thursday evening. But MoI called the incident a mistake.
The death of Zainab drew angry reactions from social media users. Some women took to the streets and asked the authorities for an explanation.
A video clip shared by MoI showed Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Hassan Hashimi meeting the victim’s family and extending his condolences to them.
He informed them about the arrest of Zainab’s killer and the referral of her case to the court. He said the accused was currently in custody.
He asked the victim’s father to file a case in court, whose decision would be enforced.
“Any punishment ordered by the court will be implemented immediately. You can also forgive him,” he added.
The deputy minister added no group or individual was above the law. To the current government, he explained, and all were equal.
The deputy minister also presented a sum of 600,000 afghanis to Zainab’s family in funeral expenses.
