PESHAWAR (Pajhwok):  Pakistan has waived off regulatory duty on pine nut imports from Afghanistan.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet removed the 45 percent regulatory duty on pine nut imports from the neighbouring country.

At a meeting in Islamabad on Friday, the Cabinet body okayed a Commerce Ministry proposal for abolishing the regulatory duty.

The tariff cut will spur legal imports of raw pine nuts for processing in Pakistan and will help create jobs in remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Given the food crisis in Afghanistan, the meeting allowed the export of selected items to the neighbouring country in Pakistan currency.

While according approval to a summary from the Ministry of Commerce in this regard, the committee added them to the list of items in Para 7(1) of the Export Policy Order of 2020.
