QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A 45-year-old man was frozen to death but all passengers trapped in snow in Band-i-Sabzak area of northwestern Badghis province have been rescued, an official said on Sunday.
Badghis Deputy Governor Mohibullah Asadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the main road in Sabzak area was reopened to traffic last evening and all stranded passengers and their vehicles were rescued.
“The Sabzak Band road was reopened to passengers last evening and now passengers can travel and all vehicles and passengers stranded on the road have been rescued,” he said.
The passengers were safely evacuated to Qala-e-Naw and Herat, officials said.
The Badghis-Herat highway had been closed for traffic at Sabzak Band area since Friday evening due to heavy snow and storms.
In other news, a man was killed on the Herat-Badghis road due to cold weather.
Badghis Qadis district chief Saleh Mohammad Purdil told Pajhwok Afghan News the man lost his way to the Qadis district of Badghis from Obe district of Herat. He was travelling with his son and died due to cold weather.
Purdil urged people not to travel till the weather improves and stay at home.
Mohammad, a resident of the area, said the man was accompanied by his 20-year-old son who lost his way due to heavy snow and storm two days ago. The man died and his son was rescued.
