KABUL (Pajhwok): A representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul met with the head of the Office of Prison Administration (OPA) and discussed management of prisons and assured full support.
A statement from OPA received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that Mulavi Mohammad Yusuf Mastari, general director of OPA, met with Gialonka, representative of UNAMA office in Kabul.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed mutual cooperation, creating and providing facilities inside prisons for prisoners, treating inmates in accordance with international principles and standards, observing Islamic and religious laws, meeting with prisoners, providing health services and assisting prisoners.
The statement said that establishment of various commissions to review the cases of the accused in the capital and provinces also came up for discussion in the meeting. UNAMA office’s representative promised of full cooperation with OPA, the source said.
