1,700 needy families receive assistance in Samangan

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Food and other essential items worth 32.3 million afghanis were distributed to 1,700 poor and war-affected families in northern Samangan province, officials said Monday.

The aid was provided by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Abdul Ghafar Hamrah, provincial director of Welthungerhilfe, a German charity organization, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the aid included 255 metric tons of flour, 85 metric tons of rice, 48 metric tons of beans, 17 metric tons of oil and 17 metric tons of sugar.

He added the aid also included 1,700 health packages. He said that aid was distributed to 681 families in Aibak, the capital of the province, 450 families in Khulm district and 569 families in KhorramSarbagh district of the province, which totals 1,700 families.

The beneficiaries of the aid have previously been identified through a survey, as each family received 150 kilograms of flour, 50 kilograms of rice, 28 kilograms of beans, 10 kilograms of cooking oil and 10 kilograms of sugar, Hamrah said.

The families also received 17 soaps for hand and clothes washing, seven towels, 11 toothpaste and three health kits for women.

People who received the aid were happy and thanked the charity organization.

Dor Mohammad, 37, a resident of Aqmzar village in of Aibak, said, “I was helped today by this organization with food and non-food items.”

Aid distribution process has recently begun by various aid agencies, including the United Nations, to poor and war affected families in the country.
