KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Joe Biden has called for the release of an American navy veteran who was kidnapped in Kabul two years back.
Biden issued the call on Sunday on the second anniversary of the kidnapping of Mark Frerichs, a civil engineer and contractor from Illinois.
Biden said in a statement: “Threatening the safety of Americans or any innocent civilians is always unacceptable and hostage-taking is an act of particular cruelty and cowardice.”
“He spent a decade helping the people of Afghanistan. He has done nothing wrong. And yet, for two years the Taliban has held him captive,” the president added.
According to the Associated Press, Biden asked The Taliban to immediately release Mark before they could expect any consideration of their aspirations for legitimacy.
