KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia has linked the worsening humanitarian and socio-economic situation in Afghanistan to the seizure of the country’s assets by the US and its allies.
President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for Afghanistan alleged the freezing of the central bank’s reserves were taking a toll on the civilians.
“An impression has evolved with us that the West will continue to cynically use this leverage to dictate their terms to the Taliban,” Zamir Kabulov commented.
Speaking to TASS news agency, he warned: “As the recent meetings in Oslo revealed, this method will not be successful.”
Last month, the Russian diplomat had claimed that the afghanis had been in free fall because of Afghanistan’s frozen financial assets.
