KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that Canada will provide $2 million in assistance to families of victims of the recent earthquake in northwestern Badghis province.
UNHCR in a Tweet today said the aid would help enable the UN to address emergency needs of those affected by natural disasters. The UN could use aid to send emergency help to the victims of the recent earthquake in Badghis.
Two strong earthquakes shook the capital and districts of Badghis province on January 17.
The government said in a statement that 22 people were killed, 40 were injured and nearly 1,000 homes were completely or partially destroyed in the quakes in Qadis district of the province.
