JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Coronavirus cases have increased in eastern Nangarhar province over the past 10 days as 183 positive cases were detected during the past 24 hours alone, officials say.
At least 273 people underwent coronavirus tests since yesterday and 183 were tested positive for the virus, Public Health Department spokesman Dr. Zahir Adil told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said positive coronavirus cases have been once again on the increase in Nangarhar.
He said one person died of the infection during the last 24 hours. He said some coronavirus patients showed omicron symptoms.
Dr. Adil said they were ready to cope with the situation but people should follow the Public Health Ministry’s guidelines.
He said teams had been deployed at Torkham border crossing to examine those coming from Pakistan for coronavirus.
Residents of the province are also concerned about the increasing cases of the virus and urge international donors to cooperate with Afghanistan in containing the virus.
Khan Zaman, a resident of Nangarhar, told Pajhwok the Public Health Department should timely arrange beds and oxygen for Covid-19 patients.
The Ministry of Public Health has recently confirmed the prevalence of omicron cases in the country.
