KABUL (Pajhwok): India will start shipping 50,000 tonnes of wheat to the Afghan people via Pakistani land routes next week.
As part of its efforts to reach out to the Afghan people amid a dire humanitarian situation in their country, India offered them wheat assistance.
Afghan Ambassador Farid Mamundzay said on Wednesday: “India is going to deliver 50,000 tonnes of wheat in the next one week or two.”
The ambassador told reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday that the wheat delivery to Afghanistan would be completed in a month’s time.
Hindustan Times quoted Mamundzay as hailing India’s allocation of Rs200 crore for development assistance to Afghanistan in its budget for 2022-23.
Pakistan had held out a firm assurance of cooperation on the transportation of the wheat to the war-hit neighbour through the Wagah border, the envoy said.
