Afghani value appreciates 14pc, food prices dip 6pc in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The value of the afghani currency has increased by 14 percent while the rates of essential items decreased six percent during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

Haji Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one US dollar accounted for 88 afghanis and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 500afs today.

Last week, one US dollar was accounted for 102afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 550afs.

Food items rates fallen by more than eight percent.

Zamarai Safi, head of Food Traders Union in Kabul, said that the price of a tin of 16 liters of ghee decreased from 2,800afs to 2,550afs, a bag of 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani floor from 2,400afs to 2,200afs, 49 kilograms of India sugar from 3,200afs to 2,920, a kilogram of black African tea from 420afs to 400afs and the same amount of green Indonesia tea from 400afs to 380afs.

He said that the price of food items dipped following the appreciation of afghani currency against US dollar.

However, he said that the price of 24.5kg of Pakistani rice remained at 2,600afs.

Hamid Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul, said that the retail price of 49kg of Kazakhstani flour was 2,450afs, 24kg of Pakistani rice 2,650afs, 49kg of Indian sugar 2,970afs, a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian ghee 2,600afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 430afs and the same quantity of African black tea 450afs, higher than wholesale rates.

Fuel prices dipped more than three percent.

A worker at Ahmad Yar Group Fuel Station in Kabul said that the price of a liter of petrol dipped from 81afs to 76afs and the same quantity of diesel from 77afs to 76afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kulula Pushta area of Kabul, said that the price of a kilogram of the commodity was dropped from 88afs to 86afs this week.

Mohammad Javid, a jeweler in Lycee Maryam area of Kabul, said that the price of one gram of Arabian gold decreased from 4,750afs to 4,400afs and the same quantity of Russian variety from 3,850afs to 3,500afs.
