KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations has hailed a $65 million contribution from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to Afghanistan.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) hoped the grant would boost food security and support livelihoods in the conflict-devastated country.
In a statement on its website, organisation said: “The ADB support represents a significant contribution to FAO’s 200-million-dollar crisis response programme for 2022 … “
The programme seeks to raise local food production, protect livestock, increase rural incomes and improve the food security of poor and vulnerable people across the country.
The FAO statement said: “The project seeks to reach all of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, with special emphasis on the major wheat and livestock producing provinces.”
FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu thanked ADB for ts generous contribution, which recognised the urgent need to invest in livelihood assistance in rural Afghanistan.
